Yahoo Now Distributing Recycled Usernames

05:54
Yahoo! recently announced their decision to “free up” Yahoo email addresses that have been inactive for at least 12 months. Yahoo has officially begun distributing recycled usernames. The move is part of a project announced in July to deactivate Yahoo accounts that haven't been used in the past year, making them available for others. Invitations are now being rolled out to those who had created a wish list of usernames before an Aug. 7 deadline.

Yahoo has begun reassigning old, unused usernames to new users who placed requests on a Yahoo wishlist earlier this summer. Users will receive an email if they received one of their top five choices. If not, Yahoo will put them on a new watchlist for those who didn't get their preferred name choice but would like to in the future. Those who didn't score their username of choice this time around were automatically added to a “Watchlist,” for their dream name. When a name becomes available, recipients will have 14 days to claim it before it goes to the next person in line.

The watchlist allows users to monitor up to five preferred usernames for the next three years. It's free for people who signed up for the original wishlist, and costs $1.99 for new users. For For 1.99 USD, you can enter up to 5 Yahoo! usernames.
