The simple definition of dermatitis is inflammation of the skin. Many people think of dermatitis as synonymous with eczema but this is actually not true. Almost any rash can be thought of as a dermatitis based on this definition - including psoriasis, skin cancer, and seborrhea. However, we don't call every rash a dermatitis.


Dermatitis Appearance:

The rash of dermatitis is itchy, red, and may or may not have distinct margins. The specific look of the rash depends on the amount of time it has been present. Acute dermatitis has blisters, sub acute dermatitis has scaling and crusting, and chronic dermatitis has lichenification.

Chamomile Flowers

For treating dermatitis at home, you can always rely on the therapeutic properties of chamomile flowers. Take a large bowl of water and add some chamomile flowers and then boil it for a few minutes. Allow the water to cool and then add some ice cubes to it. Soak the affected body part in this cold water for ten to fifteen minutes. This remedy will have a soothing effect on the affected body part and soon you will get relief from the symptoms. Follow this remedy at least once in a day until the problem is solved completely.

Bilberries

Bilberries can also be used to treat the problem of dermatitis to a great extent. Take 50 grams of bilberries, put them in a steel container, and add about one liter of water to the container. Now warm the mixture and allow it to sit for almost an hour. This will allow the mixture to become homogenous. Again boil the mixture for twenty minutes and then allow it to come to room temperature. Now you can use this mixture as a cleanser. Two to three times a day use this mixture to clean the affected area. This will make your skin healthy and will protect it from various infections.

Coconut Oil

The amazing antimicrobial and moisturizing properties of coconut oil can also help a lot in dealing with the problem of dermatitis. Take some warm coconut oil and apply it on the affected area gently in order to soften the skin. For better result, use virgin coconut oil daily as needed and especially before going to bed to see astonishing results. Within a few days of using coconut oil, the affected skin area will have significantly less redness, scaling and dryness.

Almond Leaves

Another very effective ingredient that can be used in the treatment of dermatitis is almond leaves. Take some fresh new almond leaves and crush them with water to make a smooth paste. Now apply this paste on the affected skin area and allow it to sit for a few minutes. Finally clean with area with lukewarm water and apply some moisturizing lotions. Repeat the process two to three times a day. This remedy will cure the symptoms and will also prevent further growth of dermatitis.

Oatmeal

When suffering from dermatitis, you need to take oatmeal bath to stop skin irritation and rashes. Regular oatmeal bath will keep your skin clean and provide you relief from irritation. Take one cup of oatmeal in fine powdered form and add it to lukewarm bathwater. Now soak yourself in this bathwater for no longer than fifteen to twenty minutes daily. This will help the skin to maintain good moisture level. Repeat this remedy daily for one month and soon you will notice improvement on your skin condition.

Vitamin E

One of the best and easiest home remedies for dermatitis is vitamin E oil. This oil can help rejuvenate the elasticity in the skin. When vitamin E oil is applied on the affected area it gives instant relief from itching and inflammation. To promote healing of the inflamed skin you can also try lotions and creams containing vitamin E. Regular consumption of Vitamin E enriched food items can also help to prevent dermatitis from developing. Some of the Vitamin E enriched foods are wheat germ oil, sunflower seeds, peanut butter, and corn and so on.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Another effective ingredient that can be used for treating dermatitis is apple cider vinegar. Take some apple cider vinegar and with the help of a clean cotton ball apply it directly on the affected skin area. Allow it to sit for a few minutes and then clean the area with a damp cotton cloth. This will give you relief from inflammation and itchiness. Repeat this remedy daily for a few weeks to get some positive outputs. Another option is to consume two teaspoon of ACV mixed with one glass of water daily in the morning on an empty stomach.

Slippery Elm Bark
