In order to install an OS in a computer/laptop, you must create something from which the computer can boot from. Previously, bootable CDs were extensively used to install OSes. However, now USB pen drives, also called flash drives, are a much better alternative. They are small in size, you can format 'em when your work's finished and also the process of creating a bootable pen drive is relatively simple as compared to a bootable CD. So let's get started.
Linux Live USB Creator is a free and open-source software for Windows. It is used to create bootable pen drives running Linux. You can have any Linux distribution you want. We can also use LinuxLive USB Creator to create boot able pen drives running Windows (provided you should have it's ISO file).
To create a boot able pen drive, you will need:

1. After installing Linux Live USB Creator, launch it. Make sure that a pen drive (2GB or higher) is inserted in your PC's USB slot. Please note that we are going to format the pen drive in the process, so make sure you don't have anything important in there.
2. The software is self explanatory. First chose your USB key (pen drive).
3. Now you have to chose a resource i.e. the ISO file of the OS you want to install.
There are three options. If you already have the ISO file in your PC, click on ISO/IMG/ZIP. You can also choose from a CD or directly Download the file from a list of Linux Distributions.
4. Choose the size of persistent data (usually between 250 MB and 2 GB). This is necessary if you want your pen drive to support Live mode as well (Only for Linux).
5. Check the options you want (ticking all three are recommended).
6. Click the yellow lightning button to start the creation. Wait for the process to complete and you're done!
You can create a boot able pen drive of any OS you want. Also, after your work is finished, you can simply format the pen drive in order to use it again normally.
